Ooutdoor dining is one of my favourite things to do. And since it’s my birthday today, that is exactly what I will do! I love those long, boozy al fresco lunches or dinners, right in the middle of nature on a warm summer’s day. Lots of strings with lightbulbs in the trees, abundant candlelight on the table, add some flowers, throw in some pillows and you’re good to go.

Aan outdoor fireplace is such a great thing for little pyromaniacs such as yours truly. I love building big fires, a thing I indulged in a lot when I was still living in South Africa. Although we did have central floorheating in the house, I preferred to wake up the house by building a fire first thing in the morning.

Summer Swimmingpool

Wwhen I think of summer, the first thing that springs to my mind  is a swimmingpool. In particular, I remember the swimmingpool at our home in South Africa. Located in the courtyard of the house, it was only a few steps from my warm bed to the cool, refreshing poolwater.

s you probably know, I used to have a 12 acre “garden” in South Africa. Since moving back to Amsterdam, my town garden exists of a mere 30 square metres…. which is bliss! No more fertilising the fields, dealing with farmstaff, worrying about what the weather will do, fixing broken irrigation systems, etc etc. Now, I only have to worry about the amount of sun my potplants will get.
