Iit’s been a while since my last post, but things have been (and still are) rather hectic. But I’m not complaining, I’m working on two lovely projects making visualisations for a very special modern villa to be built somewhere in a forest in The Netherlands and a beautiful chalet in a well known Swiss ski-resort.

Ii think that any interior design style can be enhanced with a touch of ethnic decor here and there. It radiates a certain worldliness, tells a story about the occupants and it lends a certain authenticity to the design. I myself have some beautiful pieces brought back from, amongst others,  South Africa. An ancient hand-carved door now hanging as an ornamental “conversation piece” against the wall,

Ii know, January is depressing enough as it is, no more X-mas celebrations to plan or NYE parties to look forward to. No more fertilising the fields, dealing with farmstaff, worrying about what the weather will do, fixing broken irrigation systems, etc etc. Now, I only have to worry about the amount of sun my potplants will get.

Ggrowing up as a little girl, my parents used to spend each summer with us, the children,  in their summerhouse in the beautiful region of the Dordogne, France. My mum, little sister and I would spend hours browsing through the local brocantes and garage sales. This is how I learned how to spot the fine stuff that was still abundantly available in those days.

Ii don’t know what your powder room looks like, but mine is still rather basic…. here are a few examples of how it could be… I especially love the one with the wooden panelling and those gorgious Chinese vases. Or how about this first one, a bit psychedelic maybe, but certainly unique. So lets put some effort into the smallest room of the house!

Ii think that house greens can do a lot for any indoor space. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean the old begonia’s that granny had on her windowsill. No, what I mean are those bright green big-leaved tropical plants like the Banana Leave plant. Or the grey-green  Olive trees or Eucalyptus branches. It’s beautiful to see the light filtered through their leaves.
