Macrame Wallhangings

Macrame wallhangings have been all the rage now for a while. I see them all the time in the interiors of the young, cool and hip. Pinterest is filled with them. Isn’t it funny how some things from the past come back time and time again? But this time around it is macrame with a twist: same principle of knot-tying now done with different materials and colors. Huge macrame pieces used as a headboard for a king-size bed.

Stairway Collection

This stairway collection is the result of a long period of time perusing the internet. Making  my way shifting and saving the stairs that struck my eye as being beautiful or unusual. Famous stairs (Coco Chanel’s stairs in her Paris boutique), medieval stairs, gothic stairs, ornate stairs or stark and minimal contemporary stairs. Wooden stairs, steel stairs, glass stairs (you should NOT have vertigo with this one…), concrete stairs, tiled stairs, you name it.

Stiffkey Blue

Stiffkey Blue is one of the paintcolors by Farrow & Ball, the sophisticated British paint brand famous for its eco-friendly water-based paints and artisanal hand-printed wallpapers. I have chosen it to be the Color of the Month for February 2016. Stiffkey Blue (created in 2014) is named after the north Norfolk beach where the mud, along with the cockles, is this particular blue hue. It is a moody blue which works in both classic and contemporary interiors. This beautiful color has hints of green and lots of grey which tones down the depth of this deep color. It works well with coral red, soft mustardy yellows and bronze or copper metals.

Design Icon Hans Wegner

Design Icon Hans Wegner is of course not to be missed in my Design Icons series. He was the driving force behind the “Danish Modern” movement and helped change the general public view of furniture during the 1950’s and 60’s. During his  lifetime he designed more than 500 chairs, which earned him the title “Master of the Chair”. A few of his most well-known designs are, amongst others,  the Wishbone Chair, the Bear Chair and the Ox Chair.

Wood decor works for most interior styles. And with wood decor I mean the little things, such as cutting boards, serving trays, pretty toys, ethnic bowls and so on. The earthy characteristic of wood adds warmth and texture to an interior, and each piece is unique. Who wouldn’t like those supersized wooden cuttingboards with loads of French cheeses, nuts and grapes?

Classy Candleholders

Classy candleholders come in all sorts of forms. Personally, I like the minimal ones, done in precious materials such as marble, bronze and other precious metals. Even without sporting a candle they are objets d’art on their own. On the other hand, I like the brass antique ones as well, especially a whole bunch together set on an old farmer’s table. Which style of classy candleholders do you like best?

Mid Century sideboards are one of my things these days. Those high-quality sleek, minimal cupboards made of precious woods like walnut, rosewood or teak are not only aesthetic to the eye, but so handy and practical as well. Great for creating a vignette of your current favourite things, practical for storing your mess out of sight.
