Lee Broom is one designer that cannot be omitted from my Designer Star list (although still short, but soon to be expanded). He is one of the UK’s leading product and interior-designers. Cool and glamorous, his designs are considered to be to furniture what Marc Jacobs or Tom Ford are to fashion. In fact, Broom has a background in fashion, with a degree in fashion design from Central St Martin college in London.

But before his studies he already earned an award at age 17(!) for fashion design after which he went to work for legendary designer Vivienne Westwood.

Broom’s meteoric rise on the UK design and interiors scene began only 8 years ago, and by now his designs are sold in 40 countries world-wide. He has already earned a series of awards and accolades and every time he presents a new collection (which is twice a year during the Milan Design Week and the London Design Festival) the press are fawning all over him.

Broom is inspired by new materials, pop culture, vivid colors, craft techniques from the past and shapes of the future. He is a true supporter of traditional British craftmanship. All his designs are crafted and produced locally in the UK. His Crystal Bulb collection for example: individually hand-blown bulbs are produced by craftsman at Cumbria Steel, the UK’s only remaining producer of full lead crystal. But what does it for me is the combination of elegance and toughness. I truly think that Lee Broom is a Design Icon of the future and investing in one of his designs now might just pay off handsomely in the future. And there happens to be a sale at Houseology just now… just see below 🙂
