ULTRA VIOLET

Ultra Violet has been chosen as the Color of the Year 2018 by Pantone. And since this is my first post in 2018, I thought it a fitting subject. If you ask me Ultra Violet is a bit of a déja-vu. I have already written some posts about Violet and Aubergine (same color family) here and here.

I’m back again and what has drawn my eye lately is the large round mirror. They are suddenly turning up in lots of blogs that find their way to my inbox daily and a quick browse on Pinterest rewarded me with lots of round mirror inspiration. I am not talking about the standard size of old, but huge ones with at least a 1 metre diameter.

Macrame Wallhangings

Macrame wallhangings have been all the rage now for a while. I see them all the time in the interiors of the young, cool and hip. Pinterest is filled with them. Isn’t it funny how some things from the past come back time and time again? But this time around it is macrame with a twist: same principle of knot-tying now done with different materials and colors. Huge macrame pieces used as a headboard for a king-size bed.

monochrome interiors

Mmonochrome interiors are a trend that has been going strong for a while now. As a 3D Artist I am using this style more and more for interior visualisations. Monochrome, or black and white, is so easy on the eye and a great base to add some splashes of color here and there. In the real world this applies too.

Spread on the floor next to your bed they keep the early morning iciness from your feet. Added as a lining to a pram will keep your baby warm, soft and sleepy (yeah, so you can do some shopping!).

Tthe Fiddle Leaf Fig has been the go-to houseplant for designers for a while now. And if you are not crazy about the currently very trendy succulents and cacti (of which more here), Fiddle Leaf Figs are ideal for adding another touch of green to your interior. The Latin name for this native to Western Africa is “Ficus Lyrata”. It has earned its nickname because of the broad, glossy leaves that resemble a fiddle.

Gguilford Green is the new Color of the Year 2015 as revealed by US paint brand Benjamin Moore: “Guilford Green is the perfect thread to connect nature, spaces and interiors with color schemes that signify fresh energy and growth.” I must admit, I am not a fan….

Ssucculents and cacti for interiors are all the rage right now, I’m not joking. With the revival of Mid Century design, these plants cannot stay behind. Ideal for frequent travellers and the one’s amongst us who do not have “green fingers” as they are hard to kill. These prickly beauties can go a long way without water or other love. I give my own Aloe Vera a cup a month (if I remember) and it’s still going strong. So skip buying a bunch of flowers next time, and get some of these instead!
