Ffall has started, temperatures are dropping and wood stoves or fireplaces are taking a lead-role again this time of year. One of the benefits of a wood stove versus an open fireplace, is that wood stoves radiate a lot more warmth. That’s why you see a lot more stoves, as opposed to open fireplaces, in the colder countries in the Northern hemisphere (think Scandinavia, Canada).

Also, wood burns a lot longer in a wood stove, making it the more economical and ecological choice. Installing a wood stove is easily done, as you do not need an existing chimney. Just hack a hole in the wall and put the pipe through it. It’s as simple as that! Masonry work to create a new chimney involves a lot more alterations to a structure, creating lots of hassle, headaches and expenses.

In general, open fireplaces are more in demand, as they tend to be more pleasing to the eye. But I think that the collection of wood stoves in this post will change your mind. In my opinion, they can be a great addition to any interior, be it contemporary, modern, classic or country interiors. Companies like the French Focus-Creation or the Australian Oblica make great minimal wood stoves. The Norwegian Jotul company produce the somewhat more classic wood stoves. What would you go for, a fireplace or a stove?

Klaar is Kees!
