PANTONE MARSALA RED: COLOR OF THE YEAR 2015

Ffor years now, the Pantone Color Insitute has selected a Color of the Year that would, according to them, reign in the design world for the next 365 days. In 2014 it was Radiant Orchid, a shade of Lilac that was seen as the symbol of economic recovery and optimism for humanity.

This year, Pantone has selected Marsala red. It is a warm, soft red reminding me of the sweet Italian wine itself. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute says: “Marsala emanates a sophisticated, natural earthiness. It is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, industrial design and interiors.”

For interiors, this color can be great if used sparingly. I would not splash it the walls or other large surfaces. But as an accent color Marsala can add a sophisticated touch to an interior. I do think this color is more suited for fall and winter. Used for rich velvets and silks. I am having trouble visualising this color in summer scenes. But who knows, maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.
