The marble trend is seen everywhere right now, and not just the stone material itself. There is a lot of marbling going on, in fabrics, wallpapers, rugs etc. Even in watertaps, as you can read in my previous post on the Watermark Collection. The name Marble is derived from the Greek “Marmareos”, which means glistening.

It was the favoured material for ancient Greek and Roman architects and sculptors. Marble was favoured for its durability, which is evident since fortunately lots of these ancient treasures have survived upto today.

I am working on a 3D visualisation project right now where marble is used for the kitchen worktops and backslash. I learned that there are soooooo many varieties in marble and not only in color. Marble is quarried all over the world, not just in Italy. There’s your Italian Carrara white marble (of course). But there are lots of varieties within white marble, such as Calacutta, Paonazetto and many more where the ‘vein pattern’ creates a lot of diversity. And what about Empress Green marble from Taiwan, Red Diaspro marble from Egypt? Or masculine black marble for a bachelor pad? Pink marble for a feminine boudoir? I could go on an on.

These days,  architects and designers are more and more aware of the need to make use of natural materials that are not only ecological, but beautiful too. Ecological chic. Characterised by the subtle or dramatic ‘veins’, marble’s extremely natural varied and colorful patterns make it a favourite decorative material in both architecture and interior design. But it doesn’t stop there. If you don’t have the budget for marble bathrooms or kitchens, then fake it with some marble decorative items such as a marble cuttingboard, or some pillows upholstered in marbled fabrics. Dive into the marble trend!
